For some time now, it has been a legal requirement for larger companies in the EU to have a whistleblower system in place. Under the EU Whistleblower Protection Directive, all companies with 50 or more employees are required to establish internal reporting channels. As of 17 December 2023, this requirement applies to medium-sized companies in many EU Member States, depending on national implementation.
To support organisations in meeting these new legal obligations, GAIS has partnered with a leading provider of whistleblower solutions that offers a fully compliant platform for the secure and efficient reporting and management of whistleblower cases. The solution is easy to implement and simplifies the entire whistleblowing process, while ensuring full alignment with EU legislation on whistleblower protection.
Mandatory Whistleblower systems from late 2023
A whistleblower system ensures that your employees can anonymously and securely report any unlawful or unethical conduct in the workplace — such as corruption, fraud, or abusive behavior.
Under the EU Whistleblower Protection Directive, both private and public sector organisations with 50 or more employees are required to establish internal whistleblowing channels. While the law officially entered into force on 17 December 2021, the requirement only became applicable to private sector organisations with 50–249 employees as of 17 December 2023, depending on how the directive was implemented in each EU Member State.

How the integration works
The integration makes it easy for both employees and managers to access the whistleblower system directly from the GAIS platform. In practice, this is done via a shortcut or link that connects users from the GAIS platform to the external whistleblower system. These are two separate systems, each with its own strengths, but designed to work together smoothly and securely.
Benefits of two separate yet seamlessly connected systems
This approach offers several advantages. No employee data is exchanged between the two systems. There is a clear separation between, on one side, well-being surveys and workplace assessments (including collected data and comments), and on the other, whistleblower reports.
This separation is ensured both technically and in terms of user permissions, meaning that individuals, such as managers, who may have access to well-being or workplace risk assesment data do not have access to whistleblower submissions.
Another key benefit is that whistleblowers do not need to create a user profile or provide any personal information such as name or email in the whistleblower system. This ensures that employees can report concerns anonymously and without fear, knowing that their data is handled securely and cannot be accessed by unauthorized parties.
